Watercoloring with your stamps

Hi, it's Amber here today to show you how to think outside the box when it comes to your stamps. I have the Easter Eggy stamp set from last year and instead of just letting it sit on my shelf all year until April I thought of some ways to use it that aren't Easter-related.

I am a Colorado girl and I love winter and the snow. But lately I just can't seem to stop thinking about spring and summer. So for today's card I used a couple of the egg stamps to make a flower. Nothing says spring like flowers! And to celebrate the easy breezy feeling of spring I also decided to watercolor my image instead of using ink.

I started by stamping the polka dotted egg in brown ink straight onto my white card base where the center of the flower would be:

I then stamped several of the plain outlined eggs in a golden yellow ink. Ideally, watercolor paper is best, but you could also use a non-glossy white cardstock as well.

Using four different shades of watercolor pencil I filled in the petals starting with the lightest color in the center and working out to the darkest color:

Then, take a wet brush and blend the colors together.

Here is the completed sheet of painted petals:

Then I hand-cut all the petals. If I had planned ahead I could have used the coordinating svg file from the SP store. Oh,well. Maybe next time! I also wanted to show you the difference between cardstock and watercolor paper below. Cardstock petals are on the left and watercolor paper petals are on the right. The color is much more deeper on the heavy-weight watercolor paper. And the cardstock will curl up a bit if you don't let it completely dry before cutting as you can see on some of them below. But it still works if that's what you have.

Then just attach petals, mine took 8, around the alreasy-stamped brown center.
I used a green sheet from EP's Metropolitan 6x6 pad to create the stem and leaves.
And lastly, I inked the edge of the card with a soft blue and stamped a sentiment from the Bold Sentiments I stamp set. There you have a personal piece of artwork to send to a friend!
