Shaped Cards Made Easy

Hello everyone, Michelle here!  Today I am sharing a card with you that I made using the Awareness Is Empowering stamp set, and a little trick for making shaped cards.

I think when most people first look at Awareness Is Empowering, they mainly see Breast Cancer awareness.  However, this set can be used for ANY of the support/awareness ribbons.  When I saw the words 'Strength', 'Courage' and 'Hope', it got me thinking towards a cause near and dear to my heart, and that is supporting our military heroes.  I did marry one after all!

For this card I used my Nestabilities Labels 1 dies for the card base.  Now for the longest time, when I wanted a shaped card I would fold my cardstock, lay the die just over the edge of the fold and cut my card that way.  It looks OK, but it leaves you that straight edge at the fold and takes a bit away from your shape.

The solution to this is really quite simple.  Just cut the front and back of your card as separate pieces.  On the piece that will be the back of your card, you want to score a line at about 3/4" from the top or side, depending on which way you want your card to open.  For my card today, it is at the top.

Once you have done this, your card will look something like this before you put it together.  Notice how my card front just magically appeared, all finished and everything!

To put my card together, I just put some adhesive above the score line, lined up the front and back panels and pressed them together.

Now, instead of a straight line at the fold of my card, I get the full shape!  Pretty nifty, huh?

The Ribbon stamp and the sentiment stamps are all from Awareness Is Empowering.  I made my list on one of the journaling tag stamps from the Scallops & Lines stamp set.  The patterned paper is from the Little Boy Collection - Sailboats by Echo Park.

If you are wondering what other awareness ribbons you can do, check out this list that I found.  There are a ton!  Awareness Ribbon Colors & Meanings

Happy Stamping,

Michelle
